With our broad expertise and long history of working with Queensland business, Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland remains the most important industry body in the state's private sector.

Our history

1868 Local traders and business people recognised the value of forming a body which could professionally represent their interests and become a respected voice for Queensland business and industry.
1886 Organised labour unions became a major influence in Australia, and Queensland employers recognised a need to counterbalance the power and influence of these trade unions by forming the Queensland Employers' Federation.
1911 The growth of manufacturing activity in the late 19th century and the early 20th century led to the formation of the Queensland Chamber of Manufactures. With the development of the strong regional economic centres, Employers' Associations were established in North Queensland, Central Queensland and Mackay.
1976 The Queensland Chamber of Manufactures, the Queensland Employers' Federation, the North Queensland and Central Queensland Employers' Associations and the Mackay Employers' Federation merged to form the Queensland Confederation of Industry (QCI). QCI combined the strengths of an important lobbying and industry policy advisory role with the established authority and expertise of Queensland's leading industrial relations advocates and advisers. It was also the first truly statewide employer, business and industry body with offices throughout the state.
1987 The Brisbane Chamber of Commerce and Industry was re-named the State Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Queensland).
1994 The State Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Queensland) merged with QCI and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce to form the Queensland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI).
1995 QCCI acquired a license to operate the World Trade Centre Brisbane.
2001 QCCI unveils Commerce Queensland. The new name and new image reflects a new energy, enthusiasm and commitment that is stronger than ever to take on challenges and to be a contemporary reflection of the leadership of the past 130 years.
2008 In November 2008, Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland was launched.
