Queensland Treasurer addresses Central Queensland business community

On 31 May 2010 Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland hosted a breakfast where Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Employment and Economic Development, Andrew Fraser addresses the Rockhampton and Central Queensland business community.

Major interest groups back fuel subsidy

Major user and industry groups have re-affirmed their strong support for Queensland’s fuel subsidy scheme.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland, the RACQ, Motor Trades Association of Queensland, Queensland Trucking Association and AgForce have all rejected suggestions from a southern-based service station organisation that the 8.35 cents a litre subsidy on petrol and diesel be scrapped. > Read more

Business identifies road & telecommunications as infrastructure priorities

The announcement of the $20 billion Building Australia Fund by the Federal Government represents a significant amount of money set aside for major infrastructure projects that will underpin Australia's future economic growth.

Infrastructure Australia was set up to oversee the spending of this fund and has called for submissions on what infrastructure projects are needed. Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland recently made a submission to Infrastructure Australia which argued that adequate and reliable infrastructure is essential to a growing Queensland economy. > Read more

Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland has argued for a nationally consistent workplace health and safety system (WHS) that strikes a balance between employee and employer responsibilities.

In a major submission to the National Review into the Model Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Laws, Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland reaffirmed its commitment to the achievement of a Workplace Health and Safety system for Queensland businesses where every person in the workplace has a safe place of work and a safe method of working. > Read more

Proposed 457 visa reforms will put pressure on employers

August 2008

Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland believes a proposal to increase employer obligations for 457 visa holders will penalise good operators for the actions a small minority of bad operators.

The proposals, detailed in the Business Subclass and related temporary visa reforms discussion paper, could see employers paying mandatory income protection insurance for all 457 employees and be slugged with the full cost of locating, detaining and removing any 457 visa employee who absconds. > Read more
