Business welcomes BWEP expansion

Commerce Queensland has welcomed the Premier's announcement regarding the state-wide expansion of the Business Water Efficiency Program (BWEP).
President, Beatrice Booth, said for some time now the business community outside South East Queensland has been strongly calling on the State Government to involve it in the collective water savings efforts.
"As highlighted in Commerce Queensland's recent State Budget Submission, the security of water supplies remains a top-of-mind issue in all regions of the state, and must be addressed as a priority for Government," Mrs Booth said.
"Rolling out BWEP across the state is an important starting point in the process of delivering water security to all Queensland regions. We welcome the announcement made by the Premier of an additional $15 million funding to start this process."
Mrs Booth said the BWEP allowed businesses using more than 1 million litres of town water per year to access subsidies and rebates of up to 50 per cent for improved water management practices and to reduce consumption.
"Our members in South East Queensland who have already undertaken BWEPs in their businesses have recorded significant reductions in their demand for future water supplies - making good sense both environmentally as well as economically," Mrs Booth said.
