Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland, facilitating ecoBiz success
Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland teamed up with the Gold Coast's premier cabaret restaurant to deliver some real environmental and financial savings through the ecoBiz program. Dracula's, a member of Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland, heard about the program at a networking breakfast in April. Less than eight weeks later, in conjunction with their Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland facilitator, they had a completed action plan submitted.
The 11 point action plan has an overall payback of 2.7 years. Some of the key outcomes include:
reduction of over 2.5 tonnes of waste to landfill
- changing of cardboard waste from a cost to a revenue stream
- 23,000kWh of electricity use avoided
- carbon emission reduction of 24 tonnes
- 1.1 ML of water saved
Although not a particularly large user of water and energy, or waste producer for that matter, the success of ecoBiz for Dracula's shows that ecoBiz can deliver real benefits to almost any business in Queensland. Now the next time customers board the on-site ghost train on their way to a thrilling dinner and show they can be assured that behind the scenes every effort is being made to monitor and improve environmental impacts.
