The change in Modern Awards that took effect on 1 January 2010 condensed thousands of awards across Australia into 122 Modern Awards.
As a result of the changes to Modern Awards some state system employers are now subject to the federal Fair Work Act legislation.
Transitional arrangements are now in place for most Modern Awards. As of July 1 2010, rates of pay, penalties/loadings and some allowances will come into effect, subject to the transitional arrangements of the particular Modern Award.
