A Price on Carbon - The Clean Energy Legislation Webinar  - 14 June, 12 pm

CCIQ is steadfastly opposed to the introcution of a carbon price.  However we are mindful that whilst the Federal Government continues to steamroll forward with this poorly designed and executed plan, that Queensland bsuinesses should be supported with the information and tools to help them mitigate any risks and take advantage of any opportunities that may arise.

Over 75% of Queensland businesses indicated in a recent survey conducted by CCIQ that they believed the carbon price would have a negative impact on their business.

73% of Queensland businesses indicated that they did not currently understand the operation of the carbon price scheme nor have considered how this will affect the cost of their operation of the carbon price scheme nor have considered how this will affect the cost of their operation and how they can mitigate these costs.

Nearly 60% of Queensland businesses believed increased costs included for energy would have a major to critical impact on their profitability.

Over 95% of all businesses in Queensland are regarded as small and medium sized businesses and therefore will be ineligible for any carbon price compensation.  These businesses will therefore carry the burden of having to find energy efficiency gains and/or cost saving measures from within their business.

Only 10% of Queensland businesses saw the introduction of the carbon price as an opportunity, either to capitalise on new markets or reduce energy and other costs.  It is this 10 per cent of business who are already preparing for the carbon price and who may gain a competitve advantage over other businesses in the new carbon constrained economy.

Some of the topics that will be covered in the webinar are:

  • How will the carbon price operate?
  • Which industries and business will the carbon price directly cover?
  • What issues does a carbon price raise for business?
  • How much will energy prices increase?
  • How to mitigate any cost increases - a Business Checklist
