The Pulse Survey has been measuring Queensland business confidence and expectations for more than 20 years.

We use the quarterly Pulse Survey, Queensland's most established, comprehensive and trusted survey of business sentiment, in advocacy efforts to shape state and federal policies on behalf of businesses. 

The Pulse Survey measures employment levels, turnover, business profitability and business confidence. This is your chance to have your business voice heard and help us advocate to government on behalf of businesses across the state.

December 2023 Pulse Report

The latest results of the December Quarter Pulse Survey 2023 indicate natural disaster, upcoming local and state elections and a tightening economy fuelled by interest rates and inflation are restricting forward economic confidence in the state and national economies.   

It’s among the worst confidence seen in the survey’s history, tracking towards levels seen during the global financial crisis in 2008 and the height of the COVID economic crisis in 2020. 

An increase in operating costs driven through insurance, energy and fuel prices is contributing to a “perfect storm” for Queensland businesses.

September 2023 Pulse Report

Latest results of the September Quarter Pulse Survey 2023 indicate business conditions, sentiment and expectations in Queensland are showing no signs of improvement with confidence in the future of the state and national economies weak ahead of the traditionally busy Christmas period. 

Day-to-day business challenges combined with macroeconomic issues continue to impact forward economic confidence, stabilising at low business as normal levels.

June 2023 Pulse Report

June quarter 2023 data shows operating costs and labour costs in Queensland are at record highs. 

Interest rates, level of demand and economic activity, workforce challenges and wage costs as well as insurance costs are the most significant constraint on business growth. 

It means business have weak confidence in the future of both the state and national economies.

March 2023 Pulse Report

Latest results of the March Quarter Pulse Survey indicate that general business conditions and total sales and revenue have remained satisfactory, however both indices have fallen since the December quarter.

Business confidence, measured by outlook for the performance of the National and Queensland economies over the next twelve months, remains at weak levels.

December 2022 Pulse Report

Businesses are facing a new set of impacts in a post-COVID environment, with attracting and retaining employees, insurance costs and interest rates listed as the most significant impacts in a major shake-up of business growth constraints in Queensland in the past year.  

37% of businesses indicated their sales and revenue improved during the December quarter, crediting recovering consumer spending and increasing demand. It’s the third quarter to record an increase in sales and revenue.
