Olympics will put Queensland on track for business boom: CCIQ
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) has today welcomed the State Government’s endorsement to formally proceed with bidding for the 2032 Olympic games.
A bid for the 2032 games builds upon a legacy for the South-East Queensland region that has successfully hosted world championships in swimming, multiple Commonwealth Games; most recently in 2018 on the Gold Coast and a proven record in delivering world-class events.
CCIQ General manager of Advocacy, Amanda Rohan said the bid is worth pursuing because of the complementary investment in key infrastructure for Queensland and the unrivalled attention the state will receive from a global audience of more than a billion people.
“The undertaking of staging an event such as the Olympics comes with considerable responsibility as well as ensuring key stadia and facilities are not only built but adequately serviced by a quality public transport network.
“The scope of bidding and being able to stage events across multiple cities within a 100klm radius in the Asian time zone provides a compelling economic base case for the state more broadly.
“The opportunity for the state’s small to medium businesses has to form the foundation of the strategy that will ensure that the games are delivered by Queensland business sector in the most timely and efficient manner possible.
“From logistics, manufacturing, food production, tourism and technology, the Olympic games provides the region with an opportunity to showcase not only its know-how but will set new records in delivery and experience,” Ms Rohan said.
