Part-Day Public Holiday a 'Hammer Blow' for Business this Christmas: CCIQ
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) has today warned the Palaszczuk Government that the passing of the Christmas Eve Part-Day Public Holiday will have a devastating impact on businesses this festive season.
The Holidays and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2019 was passed by the Queensland Parliament in a process CCIQ identified as a key concern among the state’s small businesses in the latest Suncorp-CCIQ Pulse survey where business conditions were the worst on record
CCIQ General Manager of Advocacy, Amanda Rohan said the overwhelming evidence is that most small business operators will either close their doors or reduce staff and operating hours.
“Sadly this anti-business, anti-worker and anti-economy measure by Labor has been introduced at a time where business confidence in the state has all but collapsed.
“Queensland has the highest unemployment rate and total business insolvencies nationally.
“Small business spoke in the loudest possible terms on the impact of this proposal and have been ignored,” Ms Rohan said.
