In the run up to the state election small businesses called for greater emphasis to be placed on skills and workforce developments and will be pleased at the announcement of a combined portfolio of Employment, Small Business and Training and Skills Development in the new Palaszczuk government.

CCIQ’s Kate Whittle welcomed the Premier’s announcement “A combined portfolio that encompasses small business, employment and Training and Skills Development is a step in the right direction to addressing many challenges facing small business in Queensland.”

“We would like to offer our congratulations to Shannon Fentimen on her appointment and look forward to working with her to help drive this vital sector of the economy.”

“Small businesses are the backbone of the state and are responsible for employment and job creation, particularly in regional Queensland. We hope that through this combined portfolio we will see policies that enable small businesses to employ and to have access to a workforce that has the skills that business demand for a modern and rapidly evolving economy.”
