CCIQ Welcomes Energy Minister Taylor’s Funding Boost to AER and ACCC
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) welcomes Energy Minister, Angus Taylor’s announcement to provide $51 million of funding to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and the Australian Consumer Competition Commission to ensure better oversight of the national electricity industry.
Energy pricing and regulation has been a vexed issue for both major political parties over the last decade and the Labor opposition’s most recent announcement to adopt large parts of the National Energy Guarantee (NEG) represents, for the first time in recent history, a level of distinct harmony around Australia’s national energy policy.
CCIQ’s energy analyst, Olivia Van der Wagen, said the government’s latest announcement signals a clear intent to assist industry in providing the best available power pricing framework for both households and businesses.
“After many years of investment in the national grid, and at times painful transitions to increasing renewables capacity, it is pleasing to see a level of consensus starting to emerge out of Canberra,” Ms Van der Wagen said.
