Expo 2020 - Dubai

Tuesday 22 January, 2019 | By: Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Austrade

Held every five years, World Expos are global events running over six months that aim to educate the public, celebrate innovation and progress made by humanity, and foster cooperation between businesses, academics, scientists and countries.

The next expo will take place from 20 October 2020 - 10 April 2021 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. Held for the first time in the Middle East, it is expected to attract 25 million visitors, with around 70 per cent coming from overseas. Dubai’s expo will focus on collaboration and partnership.

Expo 2020 Dubai will showcase and explore what is possible when new ideas and people connect under three sub-themes:

  • Opportunity – unlocking the potential with individuals and communities to shape a better future
  • Mobility – creating smarter and more productive movement of people, goods and ideas
  • Sustainability – living in balance with the planet.

Each sub-theme will have its own area within the expo site, called a district.

The Australian government has committed to participating in Expo 2020 Dubai and the Australian Pavilion will be located in the mobility district. The Australian Pavilion will maximise commercial opportunities for Australia, showcase our cultural assets and innovations and tell the Australian story.

Opportunities for Australian companies

The Australian Government will take advantage of this global event to maximise commercial opportunities for Australia, showcase our cultural assets and innovations and tell the Australian story.

Through an innovative Australian Pavilion featuring compelling exhibits, we will present a distinctive Australian brand that maximises the appeal of Australia as a place to visit, study, invest and do business.

Australian business, industry and governments stand to benefit from this unique cross-collaboration opportunity. There will be more than 180 country pavilions in a single location. Each will bring their own business delegations and generate huge potential for connections with foreign citizens and governments and with global businesses, investors and industry leaders.

For Australian companies, Expo 2020 Dubai also presents a range of opportunities around the design, construction and delivery of the event. We encourage Australian companies to register on the Expo 2020 Online MarketPlace portal to access and bid on projects to support the delivery of Expo 2020 Dubai.

Opportunities also exist for companies to be recognised as an official provider of goods or services to the Australian pavilion including for the supply of:

  • construction and fit-out related products
  • food and beverage consumables
  • general items such as uniforms, office products, transport and freight.
