A note to CCIQ members and the Queensland business sector

Wednesday 10 November, 2021 | By: Emma Clarke

This week we learnt some businesses will be impacted under new COVID vaccination rules from December 17 while others are still uncertain what COVID ‘business as usual conditions’ mean for them after borders and the economy re-opens.

CCIQ has increased calls for more clarity on business conditions after September quarter Pulse survey results showed weak confidence heading into Christmas period. Many of you told us you considered the vaccine a key lever to getting back to business so we know it’s an important issue and one you need more detail and clarity on. It’s something we have been calling for all week and working with government to make sure it happens.

Our role now is to support businesses through the immediate issues of today and advocate for better business conditions for today and tomorrow.

To do that, we need to gather all the information we can from you to make sure we can keep your interests at the front and centre of government policy decision making.

We are working to provide to you before December 17:

  • Information, resources and guidance to manage the implementation of the rules with your staff and patrons and
  • Provide both businesses covered and not covered under the new rules with clear information to ensure you can prepare for re-opening.

We acknowledge there are challenges arising for businesses in the next five weeks. Businesses impacted under the new rules, both in the city and in regional Queensland, are facing the potential for significant issues around staffing and labour, decision making, customer bases and supply chains.

While we welcome the government providing the information on this now and not at the last minute by way of providing some of the certainty we have been asking for, we are making it clear there is more work to do between government and businesses to prepare the business sector for reopening and recovery.

Read the latest news on what the updates mean for you and stay across our COVID vaccine in the workplace page with information as it comes to hand, FAQs, resources and how to access CCIQ’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy to help protect your business. You can also stay up to date on CCIQ’s socials and share your insights with us or have your say.

Regards,

CCIQ
