Export Market Development Grants (EMDG)
The EMDG scheme is a key Government financial assistance administered by Austrade program to help aspiring and current exporters increase their marketing and promotional activities in international markets.
On 10 September 2020 Minister Simon Birmingham announced significant changes to the EMDG system.
The changes are based on an independent review leading to 10 recommendations that Minister Birmingham has now accepted in principle.
The key changes include:
New system of multi-year grants available at 3 stages of the export journey for eligible SMEs
Eligible SMEs who are new to export will be able to access grants totalling up to $80,000 over two years.
For eligible exporters who plan to expand their presence in current markets or enter new markets, grants totalling up to $240,000 over three years will be available.
Finally, those exporters who continue to expand into new markets will be able to access further grants totalling up to $450,000 over three years
An expansion of assistance for industry bodies and alliances to help members who are new to export
There are significant moves to simplify the entire grants process
Consultation with industry to inform the detailed program design
An amendment to the relevant legislation to bring these changes into effect at the start of the next financial year (1 July 2021)
What it means for you
