We're excited to announce our first Business Matters event of the year Competitive Queensland - Global and Ambitious. On Thursday, March 21 the expert panel - Elsa D'Alessio, Chair Aviation Australia and QTIC,  Amelia Evans, CEO, Queensland Airports and Jack Hutchinson, Director, Hutchinson Builders - will delve into the issues of business-enabling infrastructure, productivity, and regional growth.


The Business Matters event series, supported by Australian Retirement Trust, provides an opportunity for Queensland's business leaders to come together and examine the major economic issues.

Elsa D’Alessio

Chair, Queensland Tourism Industry Council and Chair, Aviation Australia

Elsa D'Alessio is the QTIC Board Chair and an experienced senior leader with significant leadership, commercial, operational and logistics experience in the aviation, tourism and transport industries with a successful track record as a business leader, and commitment to excellence. She has had a successful career at Qantas, most recently as Regional General Manager QLD / NT, Executive General Manager Commercial Qantas Regional Airlines and CEO Sunstate Airlines. With an unblemished track record and an unrelenting focus on results, Elsa was one of the first female and youngest CEO equivalents of a Qantas Group airline. She recently was also appointed as the first female Chair of Aviation Australia and had her own Tourism and Aviation Strategy consulting business. Elsa has also held Board and Committee roles as follows - Premier of Queensland Business Advisory Council Member; Queensland Futures Institute Corporate Council Member; Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Business Advisory Council Member and Chair of the Legacy Advisory of the Queensland's Childrens Hospital Foundation.

Amelia Evans

CEO, Queensland Airports

Amelia was appointed as CEO in July 2022 following six years in the role of Group CFO at Queensland Airports Limited.
Amelia is responsible for setting the group’s strategic direction and leads an experienced executive team to deliver safe and exceptional airport experiences and infrastructure projects, expanding connectivity, promoting a culture of inclusion and delivering sustainable outcomes for all stakeholders.
Amelia has over 25 years of experience in strategy, finance, operations and transformation in Australia and globally - including the United Kingdom, Solomon Islands, USA and Caribbean. Her experience extends multiple sectors and organisations including Ernst & Young, Qantas, British Telecom, Energex, IGA and Property companies. 
Amelia has a strong commitment to the community, with a values based approach to leadership and mentoring, and is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion. 
Amelia is a member of Australian Institute of Company Directors and Institute of Chartered Accountants. She is currently a Council member, Pro-Chancellor and Chair of the Infrastructure and Finance Committee for Griffith University, an Advisory member of UNIQ You, and has held previous Director roles with Destination Gold Coast, National Trust Queensland and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Jack Hutchinson

Director at Hutchinson Builders

Jack is a qualified quantity surveyor and a licenced builder. He holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Property (QS & CM) from Bond University. Before being appointed as a Director in 2022, Jack worked across various project and operational roles within Hutchies, as well as within other property, construction, and financial firms in both Australia and the United Kingdom.
