Webinar: Compliance with Positive Duty under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984

Join Business Chamber Queensland's webinar to understand your obligations as an employer under the recent Respect at Work Act 2022 (Cth)

As of 12 December 2023, the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) have new regulatory powers to investigate non-compliance with the new positive duty obligations.

The changes introduced by the Anti-Discrimination and Human Rights Legislation Amendment (Respect at Work) Act 2022 (Cth) enforce a positive duty on employers to take responsible and proportionate measures to eliminate:

  • Workplace sex discrimination, sexual and sex-based harassment;
  • Hostile work environments on the grounds of Sex; and
  • Certain acts of victimization.

If the AHRC find that a company is not complying with positive duty then they will have the power to issue compliance notices, make application to federal courts for an order to direct compliance and enter into enforceable undertakings with businesses/organisations.
