Understand IR changes for independent contractors and increased penalties

Don't be caught out with a Sham - IR changes for independent contractors and increased penalties

The definition of what constitutes ‘Sham Contracting’ has changed under recent industrial relations (IR) legislative changes, increasing the chances that businesses will be caught out.

This change also coincides with greater civil penalties for breaches of the Fair Work Act provisions relating to independent contractor arrangements, both made ahead of changes to the definition of employment.

Join our expert HR Workplace Advisory Services team on Wednesday 13 March 2024 to understand the recent IR changes and what you need to know as an employer of independent contractors.

This webinar addresses the changes and what employers need to do to ensure they remain compliant with the Fair Work Act 2009, including changes to contracts and the need to reasonably determine whether or not an individual is an employee or an independent contractor.

Hear from our expert HR Workplace Advisory Services team. They’ll provide direction, practical advice and examples of the specific actions businesses need to take to remain compliant and not run the risk of penalties.

Course content and key takeaways:

  • Expanded definition of employment and how to determine between employee and independent contractor
  • Protection for employees under sham contractor arrangement
  • Protections for Independent Contractors
  • Increased penalties for breaching protections
  • How to remain compliant and what to do in case of a dispute
