The ATO offers a variety of resources to help small businesses improve their knowledge about starting and running a business, keep current, and fulfil financial obligations in order to remain viable. Find out about webinars, workshops, coaching packages, tools, and calculators that may be used to figure out taxes, super obligation payments, build cash flow, and more.

 

Community education

  • ATO offers free webinars to support small business improve their skills and knowledge to be successful in their small business ventures. Webinars are live, interactive online seminars presented by experienced tax officers. Topics include starting a small business, claiming small business tax deductions and introduction to business records.
  • Reach out is an Indigenous business support program that works with Indigenous small businesses to help them meet their tax and superannuation obligations. The program works to improve the business and financial acumen of Indigenous Australians.

Cash flow coaching resources

  • The Cash Flow Coaching Kit (CFCK) is a resource designed for trusted advisers to help small businesses build their cash flow capability, meet financial commitments and remain viable. A direct link to the digital version of the CFCK is here.
  • The ATO in partnership with the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) has released small business cash flow resources (a Guide for managing cash flow and 20 Cash Flow Coaching Kit cards) for small business to self-help and trusted advisers to use with their small business clients. Communication

  • The small business newsroom is the ATO's online news and information service. Every month we send an email with timely and relevant information to help small businesses get their tax and super right. Examples include key tax time focus areas, superannuation guarantee changes and tips to help complete your Business Activity Statements. You can subscribe to the Small Business Newsroom here.
  • We have we released a Tax Time toolkit which helps small businesses and tax professionals to prepare their 2021-22 tax returns.

Tools and services

  • New to business essentials service provides education to new businesses through a series of four emails linking to 26 modules hosted on gov.au.  Emails are sent to new businesses shortly after they register for an ABN, then again at 3, 6 and 12 months.  Emails cover all aspects of establishing, running and growing a new business from a whole of government perspective.
  • Online services for business is our online service that supports small businesses prepare and lodge activity statements, organise payment plans and manage accounts.
  • ATO has a range of calculators and tools to help understand and calculate tax and super obligation
